Il colpo viene accusato maggiormente dalle major di Hollywood, ricordiamo le lunghe battaglie legali affinchè i contenuti in hd ( alta definizione ) non fossero resi copiabili. L'HDCP è un software che protegge e gestisce i dati durante il loro "passaggio", solitamente con l'utilizzo di un cavo specifico denominato HDMI (high digital multimedia interface) che è provvisto di una codifica del flusso dati audio e video durante i trasferimenti tra vari dispositivi (ad esempio, da un decoder ad un televisore, ma anche da lettore dvd br a PC, etc. ).Con la violazione dell'HDCP adesso i contenuti possono essere copiati ( questa restrizione era valida anche per i leggittimi possessori del film, i quali non potevano farsi una copia di riserva del prodotto acquistato ).
